The following organizations were selected for environmental grant awards, from a pool of 29 applicants:
Menunkatuck Audubon Society was awarded $1000 to install receptacles for monofilament at popular fishing sites, recycle the monofilament, and to educate anglers of the environmental hazards of abandoned fishing line.
Friends of the Oswegatchie Hills Nature Preserve, Inc., was awarded $2000 to establish a pitch pine tree nursery, living laboratory & outdoor classroom for area students, local scout groups, and visitors.
Pomperaug River Watershed Coalition was awarded $700 to purchase water monitoring equipment.
Cheshire Land Trust was awarded $2000 to plant native shrubs, trees, and perennials over a 22,000 square foot area from which invasive organisms were recently removed.
